Monetizing Social Media. Also: A Disclaimer
by Joseph Jaramillo
In an rare bit of jackassery, I passed out on the couch when I got home today. As a result, I’m behind on my writing. Luckily, I stumbled into co-authoring an article over at the Mighty Interactive blog. My colleague Eric and I continued a conversation we started a month ago. If you’re looking for something interesting to read, start at the beginning and work your way up.
Also: I had to debate whether or not to link to something I’d written on my employer’s blog.
This is my personal blog, and nothing here should be construed as representative of the views or positions of my employer, colleagues, or clients.

Wow! This looks classy! Not like my craptastic, using-a-Tumblr-skin pile of crap! Good on ya!
Outside of that, I do think it’s a good conversation that obviously these social sites are considering. I’m glad Brightkite was listening to the original thread – it’s one of the few social services I’d be really bummed about if it disappeared.
I think that’s ultimately what users are going to have to get through their heads: It’s not about having to pay $20 a year for something that “should” be free. It’s about keeping your favorite site from getting Pownced.
